Project & Policy Leader
Velie-Velia Sando is the Project & Policy Leader at Mobilify Southwestern Pennsylvania, where she conducts research, analyzes policies, and gathers/synthesizes data pertinent to Mobilify’s projects. Some of Velie’s contributions to the organization include creating a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) implementation guide to facilitate municipalities’ TOD efforts, creating a story board to support Manchester Citizens Corporation’s State Route 65 removal project, drafting a case study of successful highway removal projects to determine best practices, and facilitating a support group to help municipalities incorporate TOD in their zoning codes. Velie is a recent graduate of the Heinz College at Carnegie Mellon University, with a Master’s in Public Policy and Management.
During her undergraduate career at the University of Texas at San Antonio, Velie worked for the San Antonio City Council as a Policy and Advocacy fellow in District 2 where she created a preliminary framework to reduce recidivism within the city. Upon graduation, Velie went on to become a middle school English Language Arts educator through Teach for America. Velie also taught modern African dance styles in her local community before the pandemic, and she continues to spread her love for dance through her social platform. Velie is a devout Christian, a proud Cameroonian, a lover of music, and a self-proclaimed singer. She is the first of two children to her loving parents, and she takes her big sister role very seriously as she continuously yearns to set a great example for her younger brother.
