About the Position
Mobilify’s Research & Analytics Intern helps shape how Mobilify advances transportation accessibility, equity, and resiliency throughout the Pittsburgh region. This position is designed to provide an integrated, educational, and robust experience for qualified candidates interested in careers at the intersection of transportation, data science, GIS, and economic development.
The intern will provide technical analysis and data-driven insights to support Mobilify’s initiatives in transportation decarbonization, advancing a regional transit vision, reversing the damage of racist transportation infrastructure and policies, and creating multimodal corridor coalitions. Successful candidates will gain both policy and technical experience by applying spatial analysis, economic evaluation, and data visualization to real-world mobility challenges.
Specific Tasks
- Conducting applied research on transportation, economic development, and infrastructure policy;
- Drafting policy briefs, reports, and data-driven materials in collaboration with Mobilify staff;
- Using GIS mapping to analyze transportation accessibility, equity, and environmental impacts;
- Analyzing the economic and financial impacts of transit and multimodal investments;
- Developing data visualizations and dashboards to communicate research findings and policy positions;
- Acquiring, cleaning, and synthesizing datasets relevant to transportation and community development;
- Contributing to internal strategy and participating in external meetings with community leaders;
- Reporting work progress and challenges regularly to the Executive Director.
This role will involve interaction with key local, regional, and state officials and community and nonprofit leaders.
Relevant Background
- Strong self-motivation, ability to work independently/remotely, and manage multiple projects.
- Strong analytical and statistical skills, with an acumen in problem-solving, data cleaning, and research;
- Enrolled in a related graduate program (urban planning, economic development, public administration);
- Technical proficiency in GIS (ArcGIS), data analysis tools (Excel)and data visualization platforms (?);
- Familiarity with economic development and public finance concepts;
- Understanding of multimodal transportation benefits and compassion for marginalized communities working to revitalize their neighborhoods;
- Strong communication skills, including oral, written, and interpersonal;
- Microsoft Office/365 proficiency;
- Fall and spring semester availability preferred; FCWS eligibility a plus but not necessary.
Additional Information
- Mobilify recognizes all major federal holidays and acknowledges major religious holidays observed by its staff and will discuss time off with the employee.
- Successful candidate may conduct work remotely but must be available for online and in-person meetings and discussions during US Eastern Standard/Daylight Time business hours. Appropriate notice of in-person meetings shall be provided in advance.
- If necessary, a transportation stipend may be provided after review with Mobilify’s senior staff.
